Perspectives on Birmingham: Culture as a catalyst to understanding our city

Urban Café, Church Street , Fri 22nd Sep
4pm

Using the highwire walker as a metaphor, this talk will look at different ways we can make sense of our city. As a society that has become accustomed to looking down at mobile phones, how can we shift our sense of perspective to reconsider the wider environment, encouraging us to notice the often imperceptible and to shift our viewing to a 360o approach. This talk will take the form of a Q&A with cultural geographer Dr. Phil Jones, highwire walker Chris Bullzini and Director of Birmingham’s unique Still Walking festival Ben Waddington.

Join Culture Central and University of Birmingham for this brand new discussion series designed to bring academic research into conversation with the cultural sector.  Hosted in coffee shops and venues across the city centre, the series offers communities an alternate space to exchange ideas. Topics will be intellectually accessible, combining university knowledge, cultural expertise and community experience in a neutral, relaxed environment.

Approx 45 minutes.
