Saturday 26 September

11am - Stringcredibles
A wonderful string quartet of award-winning musicians from the CBSO, Stringcredibles are well-known for their highly interactive performances for young audiences.  They perform a huge variety of styles in ways that really connect to even the youngest budding musicians.  If you want to unlock musical creativity in your children, this is a great place to begin!

12.30pm - She'Koyokh
Hailed as “one of London’s musical treasures, playing the best Balkan and klezmer music in Britain” (The Evening Standard), join in with She’Koyokh’s expertly crafted live show, discovering music from the Baltic to the Black Sea with songs in Yiddish, Russian, Greek, Ladino, Romany, Turkish and Kurdish, with klezmer instrumentals and folk tunes from Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia.

2pm - Zimbaremabwe
Based around the traditional African instrument the Mbira, Zimbaremabwe’s unique fusion of traditional and authentic southern-African sounds with modern reggae is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Come along to discover more about Zimbaremabwe's music and history, join in with their songs and dance along to their infectious grooves!

3.30pm - Hackney Colliery Band
Discover a diverse and unique take on the brass band – high-energy, good-time music that’ll definitely get you moving!  Learn about a host of varied styles, from funk, hip-hop and high-octane rock to Balkan brass, ska and contemporary jazz.  Hackey Colliery have played everywhere from the Royal Opera House to the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony – and what festival would be complete without a sousaphone?!

5pm - Yaaba Funk
Yaaba Funk will take us on a magical musical journey with their original and contemporary mix of Ghanaian Hi-Lite, Afrobeat and funk.  You’ll be able to join the energy-filled eight-piece in percussion, singing, acting and dancing!  Yaaba Funk have performed at a wealth of festivals and venues throughout the UK and Europe, influenced by the greats of West Africa, including Fela Kuti and Alhaji K Frimpong, to the US funk of George Clinton and punky energy of UK acts such as The Specials

6.30pm - The Neales
Laurie Neale and his sons James Neale, Dan Neale and Phil Neale the group are from just down the road in Solihull. The Neales were favourites in BGT 2015, with their heats taking place at our very own Birmingham Hippodrome under the watchful eye of Simon Cowell. Now they are back in Birmingham to perform as part of Birmingham Weekender.

We also hear there might be an appearance by The Neales on the Culture Catwalk at Bullring!

Sunday 27 September

11am - Holly Thomas and Friends
Join the wonderful young vocalist and educator Holly Thomas along with her exciting five-piece band for a set of singing, dancing and merriment.  You'll learn about different instruments, sing nursery rhymes, explore musical stories, dance to jazz and join in with some new and popular songs.

12.30pm - Young Pilgrims and Bostin' Brass
A two-part brass band special featuring some of Birmingham's most exciting and dynamic young musicians!  Join in with the second-line marching band music of New Orleans with Bostin' Brass, led by trumpeter Aaron Diaz, discovering music from ska to Bob Marley!  Trombonist Richard Foote's Young Pilgrims will also take to the stage to form a Birmingham-brassy-supergroup, so bring your dancing shoes for their lively jazz and rock-inspired brassy fun!

2pm - Sara Colman, with special guests Town Hall Gospel Choir
The popular and talented singer, songwriter and composer Sara Colman brings her wonderful music and spirit to the Musical Picnic for an exciting afternoon of original songs, lyrics, games and vocals, along with a special performance with Town Hall Gospel Choir.

3.30pm - Electric Swing Circus
Dance, sing and jump with Birmingham’s own Electric Swing Circus! A colourful blend of big band swing and modern beats, ESC puts on a show like no other.  A modern twist on the sounds of the 1920s, all performed live with a 6-piece band, having toured worldwide from Glastonbury to New Zealand.

5pm - Shlomo
Internationally acclaimed beatboxer and World Loopstation Champion Shlomo creates an incredibly energetic live show like nothing you have seen before: jaw dropping, inspirational and totally absorbing.  He'll show you how to create a world of funny sound effects, brilliant noises and cool music, all made using just your mouth!

Also look out for Town Hall & Symphony Hall's Roaming Music, entertaining the crowds right across the city centre all weekend.
